Part:BBa_J45398
BAT2 & THI3 enzyme generator
BBa_J45398 takes as input a transcriptional signal (PoPS) and produce as output the BAT2 and THI3 enzymes that catalyze production of isoamyl alcohol from the cellular metabolite leucine. Isoamyl alcohol is the precursor to banana odor.
Usage and Biology
BBa_J45008 encodes a branched-chain amino acid transaminase derived from the BAT2 gene from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. BAT2 catalyzes the first step in isoamyl alcohol biosynthesis: conversion of leucine to α-ketoisocaproate via enzymatic reaction 2.6.1.42. BBa_J45009 encodes a branched-chain amino acid transaminase derived from the THI3 gene from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. THI3 catalyzes the second step in isoamyl alcohol biosynthesis: conversion of α-ketoisocaproate to 3-methylbutanal via enzymatic reaction 4.1.1.1.
